Oil Change & Full Service Auto Repair in NoVa

Oil is the “life fluid” of your vehicle that lubricates the engine and protects thousands of engine components that work together to keep it running at its peak performance. Over time, the oil loses viscosity and accumulates particles and sludge which degrades its performance. It’s recommended to change the oil twice a year or every 5K miles, preferably when the weather changes; Spring (to prepare for hot summer weather) and Fall (for frigid winter temps).

At Craftsman Auto Care, our line-up of oil includes every type including full synthetic oil, semi-synthetic oil and conventional oil, available at locations serving Alexandria, Fairfax, Chantilly, Merrifield, McLean, Sterling & Cascades in Virginia.

An oil change and oil service at Craftsman Auto Care includes the following:

  • Digital Health Inspection
  • Change oil & oil filter
  • Tire rotation

Oil Change Service Frequently Asked Questions

How often do I need to get my oil changed?

That depends! According to AAA, many modern cars need oil changes after you’ve driven between 5,000 and 7,500 miles.

What is the difference between synthetic and conventional motor oil?

Since 2019, most vehicles are opting for synthetic and semi-synthetic oil changes. Conventional motor oil is refined from crude oil, while synthetic motor oil is man-made using chemical compounds designed to feature the best aspects of crude oil. As a result, synthetic oil features fewer contaminants, which leads to a lower risk of engine sludge and buildup.

Which type of oil should I use for my vehicle?

Choose an oil with the vehicle manufacturer's recommended viscosity rating (check your owner's manual). Viscosity is an oil's ability to flow at different temperatures. Don’t you worry, our Craftsman team will always pick the proper oil for your vehicle!

Do I need to change the oil filter with every oil change?

There has always been a debate as to how often this is necessary, and there always will be a debate because, well, it depends. A general rule of thumb is 5,000 miles between oil changes but this will vary based on vehicle age, usage, and manufacturer requirements. In an automobile, the oil filter captures these contaminants and prevents them from circulating through the engine. Without an oil filter, dirt and other particles much smaller than a strand of hair can and will freely travel into the engine assembly and cause damage due to clogs and other debris. If the engine parts can’t move, neither will the vehicle.
