Craftsman Auto Care CEO to participate in Mazda Mx5-Cup in Daytona

Chantilly, United States - January 24, 2022

Craftsman Auto Care President/CEO Matt Curry is set to team up with Copeland Motorsports on January 27 & 28th for the much-anticipated Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup 2022, joining the team as one of their drivers for the race.

Matt and his team have spent months preparing for his participation in the 2022 season at the Daytona International Speedway, and with the season launch barely a week away, the excitement is palpable. The MX-5 Cup pits veterans of the racing circuit against some of the best up-and-coming drivers on the scene, resulting in one of the most intense fender-to-fender road racing events in North America. This year, the Copeland team, along with Matt, hopes to bag the East Coast championship, as well as the coveted title of Rookie of The Year. If the team is successful, that title will come with a sweet $80,000 cash prize.

Matt’s love of racing began when he won a tire sales contest held by Bridgestone tires. His prize was a five-day course at Silverstone Rally School in England, one of the most prestigious racing schools in the world. He was enthralled by the technicality and expertise it took to build and race these powerful machines, and by the time he won the same contest again the following year, he was hooked. The second school he was

sent to was the Jim Russell Racing School at Circuit Mont-Tremblant, Canada, where he spent four days getting acquainted with ever-faster cars.

Matt, then 24, started to join driver’s education events, racing, and motoring clubs for such powerhouse brands as BMW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, and Ferrari. During his career, he also became an instructor, teaching hundreds of students the finer points of racing and, of course, winning on the track.

“Copeland Motorsports is one of the top tier programs in the Mazda MX-5 Cup, and I am thrilled to join them for Daytona and hopefully more in 2022,” Matt shared during a recent interview. “I had some great results throughout 2020 and 2021 and look forward to carrying that momentum into a successful campaign on the national level in just a few short weeks.”

Since building the Craftsman Race Team in 2019, Matt’s team has completed 14 separate events and driven 68 stints (with American Endurance Racing and World Racing League series). He has also taken first place in three of those events, with 8- second place finishes and four third-place finishes.

He has also been widely recognized as an outstanding businessman and entrepreneur, winning numerous awards for his accomplishments in service and industry. Craftsman Auto Care, Matt’s current venture that he holds with his wife Judy, has grown by leaps and bounds since it opened its doors in 2017. It has five locations throughout Northern Virginia and is hoping to open a sixth one in March 2022, to meet the growing demand from a vast and very satisfied customer base.

Matt’s previous auto repair shop endeavor, Curry’s Auto Service (1998-2013), was recognized as the Top Shop in North America by Motor Age magazine, Best Auto Repair Shop in Northern Virginia by Northern Virginia Magazine, and named as a Top Shop Finalist by Tire Review magazine.

The Washington Business Journal also named Curry’s Auto Service as one of the Fastest 50 Growing Businesses in the Washington DC area for two consecutive years and was named to the Inc. 5000 for three. It is important to note the significance of the latter. The Inc. 5000 List is an annual company ranking that honors companies for the achievements of their founders, especially the ones that build a successful business from the ground up, placing a stronger emphasis on the development and impact of the business on the industry and community.

Matt also has a very deep philanthropic side. He is an Angel Investor who actively donates time and money to over 50 different national and regional organizations. He is a co-founder of the Dulles South Youth Sports (DSYS) league, a 501c3 organization with over 1,600 participants annually.

When Covid19 struck and crippled the local hospitality industry, Matt
spearheaded Feed A Hero, an initiative that he undertook with volunteers and local restaurants which raised over $36K to provide over 3,500 meals for medical staff and first responders.

Finally, to round off Matt’s impressive list of achievements, he published a book
under CelebrityPressTM. Titled The A.D.D. Entrepreneur: How To Harness Your Superpowers To Create A Kickass Company, it topped six business categories on Amazon and achieved best-seller status in three other categories, later being added to the Wall Street Journal bestseller list as well.

If you’re a racing fan or a fan of this amazing human being, you might want to catch his stint at Daytona beach. All 2022 races will be streamed live on IMSA.com/tvlive.
